Questions On Hair Replacement and Hair Loss

• What causes hair loss?

Hair loss can be permanent or temporary. It can be caused by genetic, hormonal, and medical reasons or conditions.

• Who is a candidate for hair replacement?

Anyone, man or woman, who wants fuller, thicker hair is an excellent candidate. There are so many options that certainly one can be found for every person and every budget.

• What is Alopecia Areata?

Alopecia Areata is an auto-immune disorder where the hair follicle is attacked by the body's immune system causing hair loss. The cause is unknown. It is an unpredictable and capricious illness. You can check additional resources at the National Alopecia Information Resource Web site.

• I have just had chemotherapy and my hair is falling out what can I do to regain my self-confidence.

Loosing your hair while in chemotherapy can be traumatic experience for many people. Chemotherapy patients can benefit tremendously from a hair prosthesis. A Cranial Hair Prosthesis or Vacuum Fit Prosthesis could greatly increase personal self-esteem and help to create a positive attitude in this time of stress.

Some insurance companies may even reimburse you for the cost of a prosthesis. Have your physician write a prescription for a full cranial hair prosthesis, not a wig, and a letter explaining the hair loss and its effects; that it isn't just for cosmetic reasons, but for emotional well-being as well. If your request is denied, appeal the decision to the supervisor of claims. Enclose pictures of yourself before and after the prosthesis. Remember insurance companies policies do vary, but you may be pleasantly surprised with their answer.

• I am a woman and my hair is thinning at the crown, please help me!

Many women suffer hair loss problems too. For your need, a hair integration system may be the perfect solution. The special airy cabling system allows for your own natural hair to be brushed through; combining your own natural hair with the integration. It is really light and comfortable to wear and looks very natural.

• My hair piece is shedding, is that normal?

Yes, shedding is a normal process. Any hair addition is like a fine piece of wearing apparel. It will ultimately require maintenance and eventually wear out, requiring replacement. Advance planning will relieve your stress if a back-up product is in place when regular maintenance is needed. Both products will last longer by alternating them when they need to be cleaned and refreshed.

A back-up product can usually be purchased at a substantial discount if it is ordered at the same time as the original item.

To ease shedding, make sure to brush or comb the hair piece starting from the bottom to the top while holding the addition with the other hand. This avoids putting unnecessary tension of the hair addition and keeps it from shedding.

• How do I care for my new hair piece?

The original style of your hair replacement can be preserved if you keep it clean and care for it properly. Cleaning and conditioning every 7 to 10 days is recommended.

Before shampooing the hair, spray it with a mixture of conditioner and water and brush the hair thoroughly. Shampoo the hair in one direction only. Use a vent brush to brush the shampoo or conditioner through the hair. Apply extra conditioner and comb or brush the hair while the conditioner is on. Rinse with clear water. Blow dry gently. Limit the use of a curling iron to twice a week. Make sure the curling iron is on a low setting. Test it on a sheet of white paper towelling. If the towelling turns brown, cool the iron down before using it on your hair piece.

Questions On Weaves, Fusions, and Extensions

• Who is a candidate for a weave, extension or fusion?

Anyone who wants or needs longer, thicker, and fuller hair is an excellent candidate. If you are unhappy with a hair cut, or want your natural hair to grow out, but dread the in-between growth stages, you will benefit from weaves, extensions, or fusions.

Weaves can also be used to give a new look. Many Hollywood stars use extensions or weaves to add length and highlights.

• What is the difference between a weave, a fusion, and an extension?

A weave is a track, all on one base; like a strip. It is sewn or glued onto a base or on to your existing hair to create length or fullness.

A fusion is also a weave, but a more sophisticated system. The hair is applied strand by strand with a hot or cold patented thermal bonding adhesive. The fusion is a more expensive procedure because it is usually done with 100% human hair pieces. It affords a more natural looking result. As the fusions we perform are done with 100% quality human hair, the fusion may be permed, relaxed, bleached or colored for a fabulous unique and personal style.

An extension is done with a weave of fusion process and adds length to your natural hair. You can have "Hollywood Hair" or even add natural-looking highlights.

• Are extensions comfortable?

Normally extensions will feel just like your own natural hair.

• Will extensions damage my hair?

No, extensions do not damage your natural hair. In fact, some clients have said that they seem to increase hair growth and follicle strength.

• Can I wash and brush my extensions?

Yes, you can handle your new extensions just as you would your own naturally long hair. Your stylist will recommend products to keep your extensions healthy and long-lasting.

• What about the condition of my hair when the extensions are removed?

If properly care for, there will be no adverse affects to your hair upon removal. Your hair will be much like it was before the extensions were applied.

• How long will hair extensions last?

Depending on your natural hair growth, with proper care and maintenance on average a full head of extensions will last 3 to 5 months.

• Will the color and texture of the extension hair match my own hair?

Yes, the Megahair Fusion System that we use, offers a wide variety of colors and textures that can be blended to march virtually any hair. Even if your hair is permed, naturally curly or highlighted, our Megahair Fusion extensions will give you the most natural and realistic extensions.

Helpful Hints

We have offered some suggestions for hair styles based on face shape. Choose your shape while in front of the mirror and try a new look!

The Oval Face

A person with an oval-shaped face can wear virtually any style, short or long.

The Round Face

Consider a style with some height on the top. For longer lengths keep the hair closer to the face. Try to avoid straight bangs.

The Square Face

A style that lifts off of the forehead is best. Asymmetrical styles work well for this face shape. Wispy bangs may be worn.

The Pear Shaped Face

Hair should be styled fairly close to the top of the head combined with fullness on the sides and bangs. This creates a wider appearance at the forehead.

The Oblong Face

Adding fullness to the sides with curls directed close to the top of the head along with bangs allow the face to seem shorter and wider.

The Diamond Face

Try a hair style close to the head at the cheekbone line. Hair styles that lift away from the cheeks or move back from the hairline should be avoided,

The Heart-Shaped Face

A center part with bangs flipped up for a style slanted to one side is suggested. Hair styles that are shoulder length or turn under at the chin will increase the width of the lower part of the face.
